Challenge
The bank wanted to improve telecom expense control but realised that they did not have any accurate inventory or a centralised understanding of their cost base.
This situation led to a position where there was no tracking of costs, no facility to provide an on-going audit, no business cost transparency, no accurate reporting, and no possibility to charge back to cost centres equitably.
The management therefore decided to implement MDSL's TEM solution in order to improve cost reductions and gain control.
Solution
The bank started to use MDSL's TEM in 2002 by installing a system in their premises. They are now migrating to the OnDemand solution, which will enable them to further reduce operational cost by greatly simplifying the management of the whole process.
Results
The first benefits were immediate. The bank saved £1 million in the first year (10% of their telecom expenditure) due to tighter inventory control and a data cleansing exercise. Ongoing annual savings of between 5% and 15% were then made due to improved billing reconciliation.
The company was able to generate accurate reports and therefore better manage and forecast expenditure.
Management also gained greater control over the procurement cycle.
Additionally, the bank reduced administration costs by greatly simplifying cost management tasks.
