Reverse Auction: MDSL helps organisations to reduce spend with new strategic sourcing tool

01 Jan 2007

MDSL introduces a Reverse Auction module embedded into our successful Request and Procurement Manager.

London – New York - Tokyo – Jan 6, 2007 – Reverse auctions are an emerging tool that sourcing departments can use to bring about huge success if executed alongside well-defined sourcing processes.

Unlike the processes that use an RFx tool, in which suppliers have no insight into bids from other suppliers, a reverse auction is a process in which suppliers participate in an openly competitive bidding event, in real time, using a Web-based application.

Suppliers receive a login and use a Web browser to access the application. Once they are logged in, the software gives them the access to the following tools to assist in their bidding:

  • A home page listing all their current and historic quote requests with status
  • An area to place bids for each quote
  • A summary information screen for each quote anonymously summarizing competitors bids.

Auctions generally occur in a compressed time frame, anywhere between 20 minutes to a couple of days – configurable in the system.

“MDSL’s Reverse Auction significantly reduces the cost of purchase and, because it is embedded into MDSL’s Request and Procurement Manager, it ensures that bidding exercises conform to the overall sourcing strategy and to your corporate buying process.” Said Giulio D’Ali, MDSL e-Procurement Architect.

MDSL recommends using Reverse Auction for well defined commodity services such as ADSL, Lease line, MPLS services.

“Reverse auction is the first step towards an e-bonding solution. For enterprises with large networks that generate high volumes of electronics transactions, the XML gateway will allow international companies to provision telecom services, request repairs, ask for quotes, eliminating manual time consuming work, raising efficiency and lowering costs.” said Philippe Lignac, MDSL sales manager EMEA.
