Job title: Web Application Developer (UK)

MDSL, a global expense management solutions provider, is currently looking for an energetic and resourceful Web Application Developer to join our UK office and help grow our exciting, cloud-based enterprise web application offering.

Main duties

  • The candidate will join the development team in building a rich AJAX enterprise web application. This application is based on an N-Tier approach, with internationalisation and some custom controls for handling large data volumes in a sleek web interface.
  • Working as part of our dynamic development team, you’ll need to be self-motivated, able to take on projects and self-manage them through client requirement capture, specification, implementation and testing.
  • A team player, you’ll be able and willing to help provide technical support for your projects and other areas, when necessary.
  • Keen to learn new technologies and contribute ideas, you’ll enjoy the responsibility of shaping our solutions’ future direction.
  • Development is primarily in (but not limited to) Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server Management Studio 2008 R2, the codebase being predominantly written in ASP.NET v3.5 (C#) Web Forms, jQuery and connecting to a SQL 2008 back end.
  • Any exposure to XML (and related technologies XSLT, DTD, DOM etc), Web Services, SOAP, Silverlight and MVC will be useful, but are not essential.

Qualifications

  • 2:1 Computing Science (or equivalent) degree or higher plus a background in software development.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience of enterprise web applications using N-Tier coding patterns, ASP.NET (http://asp.net/) Web Forms 3.5+, Microsoft AJAX Framework, jQuery, T-SQL 2008, HTML, CSS, Visual Studio 2010 and SVN.
  • Experience of MVC and Agile development practices would be an advantage.
  • Specifically, you’ll need the following skill sets and experience:
  • ASP.NET v3.5 (Excellent, 4 years’ commercial experience)
  • ASP.NET AJAX Framework v3.5 (Excellent, 4 years’ commercial experience)
  • CSS (Very Good, 2 years’ commercial experience / strong graduate)
  • HTML (Very Good, 2 years’ commercial experience / strong graduate)
  • jQuery + JavaScript (Very Good, 2 years’ commercial experience / strong graduate)
  • T-SQL – SQL Server 2005/2008 R2 (Very Good, 2 years’ commercial experience).
  • The successful candidate will be able to hand-code all the above technologies, and have a proven track record of producing functional, database-driven, web-based enterprise applications. These must be AJAX-driven and have a predominantly CSS-based layout.

Reporting

  • Reporting to Chief Technical Officer.

Location

  • Based in MDSL head offices outside London, in Tunbridge Wells, Kent UK, with occasional travel to London.

Contract

  • Permanent role.

Job title: IT Infrastructure Engineer (UK)

The role

MDSL is looking for a bright IT all-rounder to manage our internal and external IT systems. This will be a highly visible position where you’ll be able to make your mark, with your work having a direct impact on the services delivered to our customers.

Bringing together a number of key skills across the IT spectrum including hardware, networking, Citrix, Active Directory, Exchange administration and more, the successful candidate will become a key member of our growing infrastructure team. You’ll need enthusiasm for technical challenges, a strong desire to learn and explore new technologies plus a logical, patient mind for troubleshooting.

You’ll also be highly organised, commercially minded and able to communicate expertly with non-technical customers and internal staff alike.

Responsibilities

ASP Hosting Systems [50%]
Maintain and develop MDSL’s flagship ASP hosting infrastructure (over 1,500 users from 50 Fortune-500 enterprises)

  • Exceed the performance and availability SLAs provided to our clients Citrix Metaframe 4.0 Administration (Secure Gateway experience required)
  • Server hardware specification, monitoring and maintenance
  • Network, domain and user administration (Windows 2003 AD, DNS)
  • IIS configuration and administration
  • Security Management: manage firewall, intrusion detection and VPN-based systems; maintain security policy documentation and respond to external client requests for information regarding architecture of service. Working knowledge ISO 27001 an advantage.
  • Vendor & sourcing management
  • Providing some back-up DBA responsibilities: assisting in management of disk space and data back-ups, new SQL Server builds etc.

Corporate Network Management [50%]
Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain and manage MDSL’s internal networks
  • Design, implementation and documentation of network architecture and policies including centralised back-ups, BC planning, employee use policies etc.
  • Manage and maintain users of AD domain, Exchange and Sharepoint across UK, New York and Macau offices
  • Internal User Support on all networking and hardware issues
  • Management of security patches, anti-virus etc.

Skills
The following experience/skill level will be expected (importance: 1-Low, 5-High) -

  • Citrix Presentation Server 4 including Citrix Secure Gateway, Web Interface (5)
  • Administration of Microsoft Windows Desktop & Server environments (5)
  • MS Exchange Server (4)
  • Active Directory (4)
  • DNS, routing, Windows networking (4)
  • IT & process management (ISO27001, ITIL etc) (3)
  • Security technologies including Firewalls, DMZs, VPNs (3)
  • Virtualisation technologies (3)
  • Sharepoint administration (3)
  • SQL Server (2, but definitely a bonus!)
  • iSCSI, SAN technologies (1)

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and spoken English; ability to communicate well with customers and colleagues
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in computer science, or related discipline
  • Attention to detail and very strong technical troubleshooting skills
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, and be on-call
  • A self-starter, someone who always will take the initiative and loves a technical challenge.

Out-of-hours and on-call work will be required. Travel within the UK to our co-location data centres and (occasionally) to client sites will be a part of the role, so owning a car with full license is beneficial. International travel to our branch offices is a possibility.

MDSL is looking for a bright graduate to join our Software Testing and Quality Assurance team. You’ll work within this busy and expanding team to ensure our software products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability.

The software testing team is highly valued, as it ensures the quality of the software MDSL delivers. You’ll be able to make your mark swiftly, as your work will have a direct impact on the service delivered to our customers.

Responsibilities

The role involves the creation and execution of test scripts across a wide range of enterprise software solutions and working with software development teams to reproduce defects and verify their resolutions. You’ll be exposed to desktop and web applications built using the latest Microsoft .NET technologies, and have the chance to work with advanced automated testing tools.

The ability to work in a team and communicate effectively with other team members and project leaders is essential, as regular reports on progress will be expected.

Attention to detail is paramount, and you’ll need real enthusiasm for technical challenges, a desire to explore and learn new technologies and a logical, patient mind. You’ll also be highly organised, commercially-minded and self-motivated.

Skills
Essential:

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel
  • Experience with database technologies, especially T-SQL queries

The equivalent of at least one year’s manual software testing experience is preferred in the following technical environments:

Qualifications

The role

MDSL is looking for an experienced Systems Developer to join our exciting cloud-based enterprise web application offering, by building and enhancing automated deployment tools.

Responsibilities

Working as part of our growing technical operations team, you’ll be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and management of automated system deployment and monitoring tools which support our award-winning, cloud-based expense management solutions. This function is vital to delivering a rapid service to our customers and will be a highly visible role within the Operations group.

You’ll be self-motivated, able to take on projects and self-manage them through requirement capture, specification, implementation and testing. You’ll also be able and willing to help in technical support of your projects. Keen to learn new technologies and contribute ideas, you’ll enjoy the responsibility of shaping the direction of our solutions.

Skills

You’ll have strong experience of operational systems development and administration, with deep knowledge of SQL Server 2008/T-SQL, Powershell, .NET framework (C# & VB.NET) HTML, Subversion source control and administration of Microsoft servers and networks.

Experience of other Microsoft technologies and Agile development practices will be an advantage.

Qualifications

You’ll have a technical or business-related degree and a background in software development or technical systems administration.

You’ll also bring the following skills:

  • SQL Server administration (Excellent, 4 years’ commercial experience)
  • T-SQL scripting/development (Excellent, 4 years’ commercial experience)
  • PowerShell scripting (Very good, 2 years’ experience/strong graduate)
  • NET (C#/VB) (Very good, 2 years’ commercial experience/strong graduate)
  • Server & Network Administration (Good, 2 years’ experience).

You’ll have a good understanding of system fundamentals and a proven track record of developing innovative solutions to increase the efficiency of technical operations teams.

Salary: c. £35K pa depending on experience.
